Glenlivet 12 Year Old Unblended All Malt Scotch Whisky

First legal distillery in the Glen of the Levit.  The Levit flows into the Sprey.  George Smith built the distillery in 1880 on the Josie's Well (spring).  There are a number of distilleries located in the same area but because this was the original legal distillery, only it can call itself Glenlevit.

Color: Pale Gold
Nose: pleasant and flowery
Palate: flowery, peaches
Finish: long gently warming

I started my single malt history with this scotch.  It has been years since I have tired it.  I should not have waited so long.

Show Notes:

From Scotchfest you can purchase single malt scotch and have it labeled with your family clan crest.  This is a great way to celebrate your Scottish history and give as a gift to friends.

I received a small sample of this clan scotch.  I could not find out the source of the Scotch.  The bottle is very well designed.

The scotch itself is:

Color: Light Yellow
Nose: Very mild
Palate: Smooth slightly herb
Finish: Short and smooth

No real distinguishing taste.  Very mild smooth and bland.  Not a great scotch but you are buying the label.

The Dufftown Glenlivet 8 year old Highland Malt Scotch Whisky

The Dufftown distillery has been in existence since 1896.  It is a large (12th in Scotland) distillery that keeps a low profile.  Currently it is owned by the Diageo group.  Most of its production goes into Bells Whisky the most popular blended whisky in the United Kingdom.  It still produces a 15 year old single malt.

I received a sample of the Dufftown Glenlivet 8 year old scotch.  This is what I found:

Color: Light yellow
Nose: Creamy & well rounded. Smells almost like a flower garden
Palate: Quiet and a little bitter
Finish: Some wood and tannins Sharp

Very interesting bouquet.  Not a great taste.  Not on my favorite list.
