 Scotch Tasting
How to properly taste single malt scotch
There are a few variations but here are the basics in my opinion
        1.  Tulip shaped glass - clean and at room temperature
        2.  Add scotch
Look at it in the light
            If murky discard
        3.  Tilt and turn the glass - let the scotch coat the glass
Little beads - legs (tears) will appear
The longer it takes for the legs to descend the higher the quality
The smaller the legs initially the higher the quality
        4.  Nose the whisky multiple times - at least 3
            Note the flavors
        5.  Add bottled water or cooled boiled tap water - no chlorine
            Few drops to 1:1 mix
Takes time for the whisky and water to mix and join
            Do not agitate the glass
        6.  Nose it again
            Note the flavors
        7.  Take a sip
            Enough to coat your tongue
            Chew it for 4-5 seconds
            Note the flavors
        8.  Swallow
Breath in through your mouth and out through your nose
            Note the flavor
Long clean finish is a sign of a good scotch

Here is a diagram from Macallan you can use to note your tasting.  The higher the number under each taste the stronger that taste was.  Remember not all tastes are found in all scotches.
